JUDGED Quilts: in all categories, Judges are looking for: 

• Visual impact and emotional response the quilt evokes
• The composition and use of colour
• Surface design and embellishment 
• The originality and content of the design 
• The choice and suitability of materials 
• Construction and accuracy of piecing 
• Design and execution of quilting 
• Design and execution of applique
• A suitable finish (edges of piece) and how well it hangs
• Credit for individuality and innovation in all entries
  

Sustainable Quilts: President’s Challenge

Quilts with minimal negative environmental impact; at least 60% re-used content; points for biodegradable/recycled/natural materials; no larger than queen size; could also be clothing, wearable art, or 3D pieces (with length, breadth, and depth)

Art Quilts:

Quilts of an original design; strong visual impact; high quality of execution; designed as artwork; communicates an idea, emotion, or concept through the medium of textile and stitch

Miniature Quilts:

Quilts with maximum 12 inches on longest side; any technique or combination of; in finished photo (no scale), the miniature should look like a full-size quilt or wall hanging

Novice Quilts:

Quilt entrant has been quilting for fewer than 3 years

Pictorial Quilts:

Quilt depicts a scene or subject (e.g., people, animal, flowers, etc.) in main body of quilt; figurative or representational piece

Quilt Creations:

Entries must be clothing, wearable art, or 3D pieces (length, breadth, and depth); individual or a group of makers

 

2-Person Quilts: Collaboration & Professionally Long-Armed

Quilt created by two makers, any quilting  technique (hand, machine, long-arm, or combination); declare if professionally long-armed (professionals may serve multiple entrants)
